Hi from Bangkok!
I always feel like I’m rushing through capital cities. Unless it is Tokyo. Or possibly London. It takes a lot to convince me that metropolises are much more than just transportation hubs toward lesser-known but more exciting destinations.
This time, I gave the Thai capital a chance, by digging into something very local. Ozone One is a night market in Don Mueang, offering everything from clothes to street food.
To be honest, the reason why I wanted to get to this place was not a collection of Thai sausages or cheap T-shirts. It was a virally cute animal I saw on TikTok. And, I’m not talking about Moo Deng.
Fulfill is a cat whose creative outfits bring new crowds to the market. Well, they brought me, didn’t they? Now I feel that dressed-up cats should be a Halloween tradition in every household, just like pumpkin carvings are.
Getting to Ozone One Market on a motorbike during rush hour (the market opens at 5 p.m.) was a challenge. Speaking of traffic congestion, did you see what my bus driver does while waiting for the jam to spread over Bangkok streets like on burnt toast?
One learns that patience brings us places. And the farther we are ready to explore, the more we can potentially score. In Bangkok, I ended up claiming a couple of shorts for a couple of euros, while in Phuket, a similar amount brought me a fulfilling lunch.
These vegan plates were just an appetizer for the article I wanted to highlight in today’s Pipeaway menu: vegetarian food in Phuket. Plant-based delicacies get to rule the town at least once a year, during the Phuket Vegetarian Festival. The event is mostly known for extreme body piercings. But before I bomb you with that, I thought it would be nice to digest something lighter.
